KUALA LUMPUR (XFN-ASIA) - AirAsia Bhd plans to launch its first flight to India
towards the end of 2008 and its first destination is likely to be Amritsar in
Punjab, the Bernama news agency reported in a despatch from Mumbai, citing
AirAsia chief executive officer Tony Fernandes.
"I am really limited by the planes and the earliest we can look at (it) is the
third quarter of 2008," he said.
The budget carrier is able to fly to India under a bilateral agreement between
India and Malaysia but it will not be able to fly within India unless the Indian
government grants its approval, he said, ruling out alliances with Indian budget
carriers to enter the Indian market.
